Zakkerz Cleverly Solves an Age-Old Fashionista Problem: Having a Single Pair of Pants Work with Both Flats & Heels. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG

Necessity is indeed the mother of invention, especially when it falls on the, er, heels of yet another expensive trip to the tailor.  "Isn't there anything you can buy to fix this?" asked a frustrated Mindy Alperin as her daughters struggled with the dilemma of what length to hem newly-purchased pants to make them equally appropriate for both heels & flats. "NO!" came the equally frustrated reply from Jamie Lazar & Lauren Alperin who suddenly came up with the solution.  Over the next few weeks, they proceeded to develop a prototype involving  flexible fabric strips containing a set of strong magnets.

Simply cuff your pant to the length you want, then place a zakkerz strip each on the inside of the pant next to - but not on - both side seams, and wrap the strip around to the outside of the pant. Either leave as a cuff, or bring each of the ends under so they meet at their respective side seams for a finished insta-hem. While they are currently available only in basic black (after all, who doesn't have a pair of black pants), the line will soon be expanded to include more colors and additional patterns & prints.

Available in pairs from zakkerz.com.

That actually looks like it works really well. It blends in and looks like it was made that way. Has anyone actually tried these out?

Pants - Getting The Right Fit

October 4th, 2007

Have you ever seen a woman with a great body but her pants are too tight in the butt, too tight in the thighs, or maybe too big in the waist? A poor fit can make even the best body look bad. For most women, skirts are easy to find but pants that fit well are tricky. We are here to guide you to finding pants that fit!

Before we get started, you need to understand that the tailor is your friend. Don’t expect to pick up pants off the rack and have them fit you perfectly. Very few people can buy perfectly fitted pants off the rack. It is very inexpensive to get pants tailored and it can make a huge difference in your appearance.

The first rule of finding pants is to fit the largest part of your body first.

Problem: Your waist and hips are a size 8, but your thighs are a size 10.

Solution: You need to buy the size 10 pants, take them to the tailor and they will bring them in at the waist and through the hips.

Problem: You have huge hips and a little waist.

Solution: Buy the pants to fit your hips and have them taken in at the waist.

Next, understand your body type. If you are tall, you have a lot more flexibility in terms of pant width. If you are short, you need to be very careful of wearing a pant that is too wide. They can overwhelm you. We know skinny pants and jeans are in vogue, but they should be reserved for women with thin legs. If your legs are larger, the skinny pants will accentuate that, where as wide leg pants would minimize them.

Last but not least is hem length. There truly is nothing worse than seeing someone in pants that are too short. Cropped is fine but too short is not! Your pants should hit at the middle of your heel with your shoes on. If pants are too short, they make you look shorter as it breaks the visual line of the leg. If pants are too long, you simply look sloppy. If you wear shoes with various heel heights, we suggest having several pairs of pants tailored to go with the various heights of your shoes.

We hope this helps guide you to finding the pants of your dreams. Let us know if we can be of further assistance, as we truly want to live amongst the world’s most fashionable women!
