FASHIONWEEK Fall 2007: The Most Interesting Trends from the Paris Shows. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG
I love Paris in the spring time, in the fall, when it sizzles & when it drizzles; to paraphrase Cole Porter in a completely different context: Paris Fashionweek puts the fun-fun-fun back in fashion again! Interesting presentations, risks in terms of the clothes themselves, and evidence of forward-thinking are responsible for my reckless adoration of les Collections dans La Ville-lumière.
One of the strongest, most interesting trends trends to emerge out of all four fashionweeks - Paris, Milan, London & New York - is a strain of seasonless, almost summery dressing. Instead of the usual heavy knits, protective overcoats, and traditional fall/winter looks, it's been a parade of diaphanous fabrics, bare arms & legs, and a palette of decidedly non-wintery colors. Isaac Mizrahi summed up what a number of the most influential designers are feeling when we interviewed him backstage after his Fall 2007 show (CLICK HERE to check it out): "I call the collection Frozen Spring because I couldn't bring myself to do heavy coats and heavy sweaters. Even though there are sweaters and coats in the collection that will keep you warm, I feel like they're year round and seasonless."
But for every trend in fashion, there's always a countervailing one, in this case a phalanx of oversized clothing cocoons; generous silhouettes that engulf the wearer in a cozy, protective set of fabric armor. Other strong trends included menswear-inspired chic, dresses in gray & lipstick red, prominent prints & bold hues, fur, metallics (still!), hats & headgear, and sky-high heels.
