FASHIONWEEK Fall 2007: Thanks to Global Warming, Isaac Mizrahi Maybe Right About Having a Frozen Spring that Time of Year. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG

Summary: In our backstage video interview with Mizrahi , he noted that the idea of wearing heavy sweaters & layers is almost "sad" given how few legitmately freezing days there actually are. His Frozen Spring collection instead focused on seasonless clothes in beautiful & luscious fabrics, that, while fun, actually embody an amazing amount of design & construction (while waiting for our interview, we noticed one strapless dress standing by itself next to a clothing rack, supported only by its layers of crinoline, lining, and horsehair inside the hem). The aptly named "Something More Comfortable" grey knit tunic with encrusted sleeves fell sexily off one (or both) shoulders, while "Snowdiamond", a white longsleeve top with ivory mohair skirt and silver pailettes along the hem, seemed like a chic & cozy way to face any season. A particular crowd fave - which included Anna Wintour, Hamish Bowles, Grace Coddington & an entire platoon from Vogue (do 15 people from one magazine really need to see the same show & take up all those seats?), Hilary Alexander, Suzy Menkes, the head honcho of Bergdorf, Veronica Webb, and myriad social X-rays - was the "Paper Balloon" coat in a vibrant "psychopeach" hue & in a silhouette reminiscent of post-war Balenciaga. Other fun, self-explanatory frocks included the "Hyperstripe", "Sugar Dot" & "Garden Freeze".
Color Palette: white; cream; black; chocolate; vibrant peach; grey, charcoal; white with large varying sized polka dots; white with massive flower screen print
Textures & Details: snazzy fur booties; vibrant playful stripes & dots; fur peeking out from beneath hems; encrusted sleeves on knits; belted sweater jackets for evening
Key Looks: floor length white "Coconute Layer Lace" feather-trim dress; white dress with ivory mohair long skirt & black belt; vibrant peach tafetta trapeze coat; varying horizontal stripes of grey knit top & skirt with chocolate belt; grey breezy tunic with encrusted sleeves; large dot print dress with fur hem
