Who put the M in Manchester? The Miserable, Smiths loving friend of yours-make them finally smile with some music this holiday-Fashiontribes Gifting Blog

My friends are quite a whiny little bunch.  i love 'em, but how many times can you listen to them relate our lives to the melancholy tunes of Moz and his band of ruffians?  For those of my beloved so immersed in the world of Madchester, I plan to put together a little goody pack that will hopefully prevent me from any further Smiths night at the club attendance.  First and foremost, like their music or not, they captured some very captivating images for use in video and cover-art work.  The Smiths-The Complete Picture DVD gives you the ultimate video collection, showcasing all of their works-which can definitely be appreciated by a more general crowd than just Smiths fans.  Still not enough of a Morrissey fix for your Rusholme Ruffian?  Who put the M in Manchester is a Morrissey compendium, showcasing what many fans refer to as the ultimate in live performances.

Now, we don't want any suicide on our hands, so to make sure a proper balance is achieved, we are totally going to throw in this little iDog.  Nourished exclusively on music (like many of our painfully indie buddies) he will groove along to anything you play.  Everybody needs at least one friend.

The answer is, of course, Morrissey. Released in conjunction with
Live From Earl's Court, Who Put the M in Manchester documents a different performance and set list. That said, both concerts were in support of You Are the Quarry and include a healthy dose of Smiths material. On the DVD, Morrissey is in fine voice and good spirits--and why not? He isn't just in front of a home audience, but May 22nd was his birthday (as he jokes, "I can't believe I'm 29"). The rest of the solo tracks, like "Hairdresser on Fire" and "Everyday is Like Sunday," are mostly drawn from Viva Hate. Bonus features include four videos and another live Manchester set from 2004. Those looking for a career retrospective may be disappointed as his last few albums are largely ignored. For the Morrissey fanatic, however, the hyperbole of the title is likely to be fully justified. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
