Once Upon a Time, a noble designer named Keanan Duffty…. ::PODCAST
Aren't familiar with Keanan Duffty? Better fix that fast -- fashion doctor's orders
The warrior theme surfaced again here, however this version was set in the Middle Ages. His program notes even featured a whimsical mini-drama about medieval maidens, ladies, and Round Table Knights, with gryphons and monsters roaming the lands to be “slain by the goodliest of swords.” What came down the runway though was no fairy tale – it thoroughly kicked ass.
Duffty’s modern Guinivere won’t be properly dressed without the thigh-hi stocking boots, and taupe knit jersey tunic with “olde golde” croc back and shoulders. Another stunner: an asymetrical skirt of made up 3 inch wide strips of brown suede, black leather and gold croc, pieced together vertically and unevenly. Boys can look forward to blazers in earth tones and darkish greens, silk-screened with various patches and faces, and tucking their pants into Frye boots. The more S&M inclined will dig the black leather executioner’s mask worn with bare chest and black leather driving gloves (elicited hearty and enthusiastic applause from the fancily dressed boys in attendance).
Properly coiffed lasses have mohawk-like braids or a cone of braided hair piled squarely on top of the head. Boys are doomed though to an oddly feminine Prince Valiant (Anna Wintour?!) bob.
A collection made-to-order for Technoid Subculture, it was tight, cool, and pretty much blew us away. Why, oh why, can’t more collections be like this one?!
