China's Shandong Bo Xing has a rich tradition of straw braid-craft using banana leaf, rattan peel, corn leaf & steamed cattail cloth (right). These natural materials and their surroundings were recently used to inspire The Sight of Things Reminds One Person, a project at the Central Academy of Fine Arts for which the students were tasked with creating items that would pay homage to both the culture and skilled craftspeople who helped realize the designs.
From generational differences to the value of culture, the country's next wave of design talent certainly rose to the challenge.
The way this endeavor honors the past to help pave the way forward fashionwise is a signature of the Folkspun fashion tribe. For more of my posts about this tribe, CLICK HERE. To learn more about each of fashion's four mega-tribes that I track, START HERE.
