With a muted, old-money color scheme inspired by current menswear trends, hand-stitched touches usually found in high-end leather furniture, and elegant brushed-metal typical of "directional" industrial design, the new S-MAX Vignale Concept is coming to you straight from...Detroit.
At the recent 2015 Salone del Mobile in Milan, Ford Motor Company unveiled their new car creation. “Spacious and aspirational, the S-MAX Vignale Concept goes beyond traditional automotive design and speaks to customers who value aesthetics,” notes Martin Smith, executive director, Design, Ford of Europe. “Our Vignale designers were inspired by trends from furniture to fashion to create this new expression of Ford.”
Indeed, this "new expression" is expressed with a modern sweep of leather in a single hue from dashboard to rear-luggage compartment to create a "lounge-like" environment. The seats feature fashion-centric quilting, while the texture-embossed aluminum behind the steering wheel is brush-painted in warm tones and accessorized with special Vignale lettering. Even the color of the car is a directional rose-metallic pearlescent shade that goes by the very Armani'esque name of Milano Grigio.
The line also comes with its own Vignale lifestyle collection, which includes a bespoke travel bag that was awarded an iF Design award. "The design language itself is on the cusp of the latest fashion and furniture trends, reflecting inspirations in terms of fabrics, leathers, colors and detailing," says Sonja Vandenberk, chief designer of colour and material at Ford. “We can see from the designs around us at Salone del Mobile and Milan Design Week ” adds Stefan Lamm, exterior design director, Ford of Europe, “that modern luxury does not need to be loud.”
