Marimekko you're probably familiar with, but what about Annikki Karvinen, Daniel Palillo, Finnwear, Ivana Helsinki, Joutsen, Limbo, Luhta, Markku Piri, Oratop, Panik, Piretta PTA, Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen, R-Collection, Samuji, Sophie Sälekari and Vuokko?
No?
If not, worry not because next summer, the Design Museum of Helsinki will be the place to get up to speed with a fun new exhibition. FINNISH FASHIONS - AN ANTHOLOGY will survey the local fashion industry from the 1950s to the present, pondering how it has been impacted and shaped by the postwar intellectual landscape, long winters, equality, the proximity of the Soviet Union, the economic boom, the technological engineering mindset, and the millennium. This wide range of influences - geographic, geopolitical, economic, social and technological - will be presented through more than just garments and will include photographs, video recordings and archive materials.
Finnish Fashions - An Anthology will be on display from June 5 - September 21, 2015. For information, directions & to buy tix, visit Designmuseum.fi.
