Although most wearable tech is, technically speaking, wearable...from a style perspective: fuhgiddaboudit. "You need to make sure your stuff looks like something you desire to put on and not like something out of Star Trek," observes wearable-tech afficionado and designer will.i.am. "When you have things you put on your body that have tech in them," he continues, "you need to design them the way you would design things that didn’t have technology in them."
Like this snazzy new MICA smart-bracelet, designed by Opening Ceremony's Humberto Leon and Carol Lim (the duo behind cult-fave Kenzo). Its full name is My Intelligent Communication Accessory and its innards are just as chic thanks to cutting edge tech from Intel inside, including: SMS messages, meeting alerts, general notifications delivered directly to the wrist, wireless charging and other cool functionality still to be revealed. All good 'n well, but in my vain-fashionista world, function is trumped by form.
Which me likey.
There are two launch styles of MICA being offered for Spring 2015: a chic watersnake in either white with South African tiger's eye and Russian obsidian, or black with Chinese pearls and Madagascar lapis. Both feature a sleekly curved, sapphire-glass touchscreen. "With design based on Opening Ceremony's fashion expertise and Intel's industrial design capabilities, as well as input gathered from Opening Ceremony's unique community," they add, "MICA embodies a true collaboration between the fashion and technology industries."
The MICA images were shot by Collier Schorr with models Kirsten Owen and Ajak Deng. Look for the MICA to be available just in time for the Holiday 2014 shopping season at Barneys and Opening Ceremony.
