Kate Moss makes for a most excellent choice to peddle the reload of the Gucci Jackie bag (named, of course, for Jackie O) - for Moss is an interesting mashup of being kinda slouchy yet luxe, kinda High Street but designer, kinda vintage and kinda fash-forward. Like Gucci. Gucci designer Frida Giannini "is at her believable best when she embraces everyday luxury," observes fashion critic Nicole Phelps. "The good life, after all, is what the Gucci mythology is all about." (image)
Which means clothing comfortable enough to withstand a 24/7 schedule and chic enough to look like you still keep leisurely Banker's hours. (image)
Giannini delivered by first ditching the usual phalanx of red carpet gowns. Instead, she focused on day attire able to show up for a Starbucks meeting at 7am without looking overdone and then dazzle after dark out at dinner without looking like you're slumming. Not an easy feat, certainly, but doable in the shirtdress made from soft leather in a dark, bottle green. Or any of the easygoing but chic shirtwaist dresses for that matter. Ditto the shaggy-glam fur vests, slouchy cropped boyfriend jeans, denim bandjackets and fabulous criss-cross heels.
And now that scarves are back, an ascot (by Gucci, of course) tied nattily at the neck. "She's an international girl," adds Giannini about the inspiration for this collection. "She's a girl who travels a lot to many places." Which S/S'15 reflects by being super easy to mix and match in way that's effortless. "It's very nonchalant," she continues, "which is a very contemporary attitude."
The vintage appeal of this collection plus the emphasis on preserving the iconic "codes" of the house add up to a feel that's extremely Folkspun - the fashion tribe that acts as the keeper of memory. Memories can include the elements that make a brand fabulous - like Gucci's horse-bit design, its Jackie Onassis-inspired bag, its loafer - but also memories of how we craft our best work, including haute handiwork, artisanal traditions and time-honored techniques.
