"When it's miserable outside," observes Norwegian food writer Signe Johansen, author of Scandilicious Baking, "you need carbs." Plus a nice place to scarf down all those fresh-baked cinnamon buns, real-butter coffee cakes and deliciously dense rye rolls, for when you're regularly riding out brutal winters and inclement weather, it helps if you're at least cooped up somewhere with flair. Like in one of those stylish interiors in Borgen and The Killing. "They're not staged environments," notes Magnus England, managing director of the design chain Skandium. "That's how people live in Scandinavia." Design obsessed they are, those stylish Nordic types. Which is a good thing, given it produces fashion that is interesting and really innovative, but still grounded in a long artisanal tradition. (image)
Just like the carbs and the couches, the local brand of chic is shaped by the weather. The Weather Diaries opened in the spring of 2014, part of the Nordic Fashion Biennale #3 at Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt.

The photographic exhibition was curated by the Swedish-based American-Austrian photographer-duo Cooper & Gorfer, whose work is reminiscent of eighteenth and nineteenth-century painting, fusing a dark romanticism with modern quirkiness.
Keeping tradition alive while keeping it relevant to today's fashionistas and ensuring it a place in the fashion scene of the future is very much what the Folkspun fashion tribe is all about. [NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT EACH FASHION TRIBE, START HERE]
