Take a look at what you're wearing. Have you ever wondered who made it? From the farmers who grow the cotton to the army of labor that cuts and sews everything piece-meal, assembing it yet someplace else, the supply chain is monolithic, faceless and industrial. "We have lost the connection with the clothes that we wear, so we thought it was important to make this first day about transparency and connections," explain the fashionable folk behind the first ever Fashion Revolution Day on April 24, 2014. "What is the connection to someone else through your clothes?"
To raise awareness of the event, eco-aware US fashionista Kathryn Hilderbrand created a dress by hand out of plastic that is, yes, transparent! Her GreenLinebyK celebrates supply chain transparency every day - all their eco-chic items are cut individually using local labor working in fair trade conditions.
When it comes to clothing, caring about the who behind the what is the new black.
