These towering crystal-encrusted wonders are by Noritaka Tatehana, a designer from Tokyo's Kabuki-cho district whose handmade creations reside in permanent collections everywhere, including the influential FIT Museum in NYC. The self-taught designer also has a background as colorful as his work; he explains he hails from a fam that apparently "acquired earnings in the centre of an entertainment and red-light district."
We happen to harbor a deep & undying love of fantastical footwear, whether recent - like this wooden wonder by Walter Steiger for Akris inspired by the ballerina's point shoe - or from times gone by, such as these fabulous skyscraper'y chopines from the 16th century favored by the fashion-forward courtesans of the day.
