My Facebook friend-in-fragrance Therese of Paris, France recently sent me and six other women this message:
“Some fun is going on.... just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. And send this on to ONLY girls no men .... It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before the men will wonder why all the girls have a color in their status.”
Therese received the message from a FB friend in Miami and posted “pink”. I posted purple. Carter posted ‘pasties” and Ida posted black. Perfumer Keiko Mecheri posted ‘greige’ and perfumer Sali Oguri posted “sans”. By late afternoon over 300 female Facebook friends had a color or a word as their Facebook status.
Men were catching on, and soon were commenting on colleagues and loved ones who have been affected by breast cancer. Or just checking ‘like’ (ok, my leopard status got a few likes from men, but all for a good cause). According to @mashable on twitter, a top ten blog worldwide which posted a story in the wee hours of the morning (EST), their sources believe that a Detroit group of women started this viral fight for the cause. As of now, their feature has been retweeted over 5000 times.
Fashiontribes thinks pink 24/7. We don’t know how it started, but we are just glad women understand October is not the only month to “support” the search for the cure.
