With his 39 piece collection for high street chain Topshop, the eccentric (yet always fabulous) Scottish designer Christopher Kane has achieved the seemingly unattainable: successfully transforming his runway aesthetic into "looks for less" - priced between $30 and $300 - without straying from his couture sensibilities.
He unleashed his fiercely creative mind and displayed a deconstructed-chic array of body-con dresses, studded sweatpants (yes, sweatpants), skimpy tees with huge graphic prints, jackets, denims galore and even leggings. Every piece, it seemed, was festooned with fringe, leather, suede, or studs, and all in a rich palette of deep ceruleans, creams, pearly whites, pale fuschias and edgy prints.
Strapless bandage dresses in brown and 80s neon green proved absolutely lust-worthy, and the denim jackets, another favorite, were cleverly sprayed with small studs for a subtle, yet edgy, feel. Tees with huge prints paired with dark leggings and some Dr. Martens would be the perfect statement outfit to a NYFW after-party, while a gorgeous eyelet cardi was promptly added to the list of must-haves. And stepping out in one of the dark cerulean bustier dresses with the bodice liberally sprinkled in sequins...we anticipate being catapulted to bonafide fashion icon status.
The best part? The prices won’t kill. So grab your credit cards and head over to Topshop. That's what I'm going to do.
