Oxfam recently launched Oxfam DIY, a new online fashion resource designed to encourage remaking what's old into something up-to-date and fabulous. To celebrate, they teamed up with British stylist Mrs Jones on a unique fashion design competition: to create a customized garment from old clothing or recycled materials. Patricia Stepanovic won with these customized shoes, inspired by Christian Louboutin for Rodarte.
"The shoes took a while to make, but after all the fingers bleeding and hurting my hands several times, it was definitely worth it," explains the fashion blogger who begins studying at the London College of Fashion in September. "Winning this competition was so unexpected, and it was an amazing experience to visit Mrs Jones. I came away feeling inspired to continue creating my own pieces." In addition to having her design featured on the Oxfam DIY site, Stepanovic won a one-of-a-kind item designed just for her by Mrs Jones who notes that, "The overall standard of entries was very high, and it was a difficult decision. I chose Patricia's design because I loved the shoes, and could sympathize with the fact it made her fingers bleed. Patricia's entry showed what you can do with a bit of ingenuity and Oxfam, and that's what this is all about!"
