Kenzo's newest women's fragrance, Unidentified Fragrance Object, will be unveiled this fall at NYC's MOMA as part of a retrospective exhibition for the designer of the fragrance bottle, Ron Arad. Arad was commissioned by Kenzo to create a container as sensual to the touch as the scent it contains is to the nose, resulting in a stylish, complex bottle with a completely internalized spray mechanism made from Zamac, a metal alloy which was then hand-polished, limiting its production stateside to 1000 units.
Aurelien Guichard, the nose, was given the task of crafting the scent of skin for Kenzo UFO, for which he drew on the olfactive memory of his mother, a sculptor who worked with marble. Unlike the traditional perfume pyramid - top, heart, and base notes - Guichard recreated the scent of marble powder against a woman's skin with a "marble accord" heart balanced against natural raw ingredients. Frankincense intensifies the pure mineral character, floral notes (orange blossom, Bulgarian rose) add femininity, and vanilla amplifies intimacy and sensuality.
Kenzo UFO is available in extreme limited edition at KenzoUSA.com.
