A passion for fashion, glamour and the cheeky side of social expression inspire and inform illustrator Charmaine D'Silva's whimsical take on one of her fave subjects: fashionistas. "To me, art is a synthesis of my personal feelings," explains the globetrotting Toronto watercolorist. "The subject or colors that inspire me and my techniques are basically everything around me, and fun & simplicity are my primary goals. My paintings usually start with an everyday task from life, then evolve into compositions in which a fun, fancy and stylish woman is the primary subject."
"Being an up and coming artist, I am inspired by Jordi Labanda and Bella Pilar and aspire to create as prolifically as them someday," she adds, hoping in turn to inspire others. "Despite several career changes, I have continued to create art, and I want to inspire artists that maybe are afraid to pursue their dreams. It's OK to start a new career at any point in life - even in these tough and challenging times!"
