Acclaimed NYC artist, professional ballet dancer & mime Steven Colucci is set to unveil Muse: An Exhibition of Paintings and Haute Couture at the National Arts Club starting Friday December 5, 2008. The month-long exhibition will feature 12 new paintings and 6 gowns bearing his original artwork and marking his debut as a designer of couture (above: Miss USA Crystle Stewart in one of his lively creations).
The paintings depict the artist's unusual approach to performance and visual art, each one incorporating varying states of movement reflecting his long career as a performance artist; the Colucci Couture pieces feature custom-designed fabrics in pleated organza, embroidered organdy and silk charmeuse with hand-sewn embellishments that translate his artwork into an elegant line of evening dresses and gowns. "The National Arts Club has a long history of featuring some of the world's most distinguished artists and I'm honored to bring my latest show to this iconic gallery," notes Colucci, a MoMA guest artist whose paintings have also been shown at the Grant Gallery, and Soho's Belenky Gallery. "Muse offers a synergy of my experiences as a dancer and a mime as each component, whether painting or gown, offers an expression of physicality and movement."
Muse: An Exhibition of Paintings and Haute Couture by Steven Colucci will be open daily from 12 noon - 5 pm starting Friday, December 5th through Monday, January 5th at the National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South (between Park and Irving Place).
