(Inauguration Night Update! Check out Michelle Obama in her Inaugural Ball Gown choice: a gorgeous, ethereal white one-shoulder number by Jason Wu.)
Rocking fash insider-fave Thakoon at the Democratic National Convention, stumping in J.Crew and White House/Black Market on the campaign trail, in controversial Narciso Rodriguez on Election Night, and looking positively Jackie O in Maria Pinto, a former Geoffrey Beene protege, at a post-election visit to the White House (below) - Michelle Obama has quite the flair for fashion...both high and low. And in a savvy recent purchase, Carrie Feron, Vice President and Editorial Director of Avon A (a HarperCollins imprint) has acquired a yet-untitled book about Michelle Obama's style & fashion to be penned by Mandi Norwood, award-winning fashion personality, book author, and EIC of various magazines, including Shop Etc., Mademoiselle & Cosmo UK.
And with rumors flying about the First Lady appearing on the cover of March 2009 Vogue, the Spring 2009 timing of the guide - which will include design sketches, tips on achieving Obama's style, and other fun fashion feature sidebars - is fashionably perfect. "Not since Jackie O have we had a First Lady become a fashion icon," notes Feron. "Michelle Obama will be one of history's most vibrant first ladies; she has a distinctive style that every American woman can aspire to...whether the consumer is a Target shopper, or someone more likely to be found on Miracle Mile."
