On her recent official visit to Britain with new husband, French President Nicholas Sarkozy, Madame Carla B-S was resplendent in Dior gowns, shoes, bags, dresses and coats...exposure which The Sunday Times estimates should boost the label's sales a cool $2 million. In a fun piece in WWD speculating about who exactly is footing the bill for the former supermodel's super wardrobe, her agent pointed out that her fashion habits are her own biz.
"She either borrows or buys," says her agent, Veronique Rampazzo, of the Marilyn Agency in Paris, such as the Hermès gown by Jean Paul Gaultier she wore to a state dinner for Israeli President Shimon Peres - and which she paid for. "And it's all her personal budget. It's not the state budget. The same goes for her hair and makeup." London also included a parade of Gaultier, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent, all borrowed, and all of which will either be returned or, no doubt, elicit comment when they get recycled at other events.
