Art For Progress is once again hosting their international competition in which artists from anywhere can compete for opportunties & prizes in an interactive environment. Last year, 120 artists were featured, over 4,000 people voted on-line,
and over 300 people attended the finals event.
Winning aside, the competition more importantly provides artists with exposure - such Fashion winner, Selma Karaca (right), whose designs are presently being featured in the AFP gallery, and who showed at New York Fashionweek along with Lu Kun of Shanghai (below).
The annual competition includes visual art, film, fashion, live music, DJs, and a new Creative category. Online voting takes places over a five week period beginning early in January, during which time anyone voting can view short films, listen to music, and see the work of artists and designers from China to New York. Three finalists will be each category, and the winners announced during a special live finals multimedia event in March, 2008.
Last year, the winners were introduced to key players in their respective industries & showered with fun prizes:
in the Fashion category, Selma Karaca, was given a consultation with the high powered Kelly Cutrone of the People's Revolution PR firm, who helped her show her Spring 2008 Collection during New York Fashionweek
musical group Quitzow met with top music public relations firm Magnum PR, and held a residency at Pianos this past summer
filmmaker Daniel Maldonado received a package that included Apple’s Final Cut software courtesy of Tekserve and a weekend film production equipment rental from Abel Cine Tech
DJ Rob Paterson was featured in the annual AFP Winter Music Conference 2007 event in Miami, and received free music production classes from NYC’s Dubspot
Submit your work at ArtForProgress.org by January 8th 2008, when online voting begins. Finalists will receive AFP memberships worth $150-$450, and the winners will be decided in March 2008. Look for a feature about the Fashion category winner on Fashiontribes!
