After first hearing a punk band in Kansas City hammering out Christian tunes in 2002, photojournalist Stephanie Keith was intrigued by the incongruity. "It seemed like such a contradiction in terms," she explains in Rolling Stone, where her photo essay documents the rock & rapture mashup of this straightedge subculture. Over a four year period, Keith shot at New Hampshire's Soul Festival, Pennsylvania's Creation Festival, New Jersey's Autumn Blaze & Virginia's Acquire the Fire fest, capturing the more unusual elements such as prayer tents, impromptu baptisms at a nearby pond, and heartagram jewelry which incorporates pagan imagery.
