Now that everyone's wrapped their heads around the return of shorts, the learning curve is underway. On the New York subway, I spotted a fashionista with the best of intentions but major problems with her outfit execution. Her fashion crime? A pair of plaid, rolled up short-shorts paired with office-proper see-through black hose (the kind with a formal sheen) and a mid-heel closed-toe work pump.
Your stay-outta-jail plan: when rocking short shorts - especially the fresh new way with rolled up makeshift cuffs - designers offered a variety of ways to get it right:
- open toe sandals preferably chunky & with a major heel. Good options include neutrals, a tone-on-tone nude or colorful & cheery
- major heels wedges give height with comfort, while a stiletto creates a less cazh vibe
- opaque legwear until the weather warms up, tights are a great option, especially brights & prints. The key: make sure they are beefy and completely opaque. Under no circumstances pair with panty hose or risk the wrath of the fashion police.
- closed-toe Mary Janes good as an option for pairing with tights - otherwise go the open-toed route. Again, never-never-never wear with a closed-toe work pump.
