Polartec recently held their Second Annual Textile Design Project at the school - whose alumni include Stella McCartney, John Galliano, Chalayan Hussein, Antonio Berardi and Alexander McQueen - with the goal of creating a fresh & fashion-forward approach to the fabric & its end use. In their bid to create a coordinated and innovative collection from Polartec's range of recycled and renewable fabrics, 27 students experimented with techniques including thermoplastic, sustainable processes, layering and burn-out...manipulating Polartec in ways probably never before seen.

First place winner Amanda Lown explored  the idea of camouflage using metallic embellishments, beading and burn-out techniques as part of her theme of Modern Heritage. Georgina Pragnell placed second with Digital Organic, morphing organic imagery with city architecture & applying it to the surface of the fabric with pixilated imagery, pleating and cut laminated coatings. "This type of event allows Polartec to be viewed in a high fashion creative end use that is very different from our core customer," notes Allison Estabrook, Global Director of Design at Polartec. "Our strategy is to balance function and fashion to bring the most technically constructed fabrics to market."
