Generally the people patronizing July 4th picnics and celebrations in goofy red, white & blue outfits seem not to have a shred of fashion dignity. The problem? Overpowering & ridiculous prints on cheap & shapeless shorts, shirts and floppy hats. The trick to pulling off this tri-color scheme is making chic white the base - ie. a flowy caftan & chic sandals - and then adding touches of the other hues as one adds spice to a dish: in small amounts. Think an eyecatching piece of jewelry in turquise, a sea-blue beach tote, and perhaps some nailpolish in a fun & summery azure. Then add a chilipepper red swimsuit, beach towel, and even sunglasses, and bask in glances of admiration (rather than derisive snickering) from fashion-minded bystanders.
