A Mother’s Day gift in 1990 launched Portland jewelry designer Carmelleta Nash-Pronold’s career in jewelry design. When she unwrapped  Africa Adorned by Angela Fisher, the photos inspired her to do beadwork and to seek out extraordinary beads whenever possible.  “I have come to recognize that I am the (late art collector) Peggy Guggenheim of the bead world," she notes. Like Guggenheim, she travels worldwide, using her keen fashionista's eye to discover unusual beads, such as glass beads from Italy, and her personal faves: clear quartz crystal.
