FASHIONWEEK Fall 2007: Somehow Jean Paul Gaultier Figured out What Brigadoon, the Belle Epoque & Arabian Nights Have in Common. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG
One of the enduring mysteries of the ages is how designers can find harmonious similarities in seemingly disparate influences. On paper, describing a collection based on ginormous plaids in reds, yellows & greys; feathered hats from the Belle Epoque; black lace tatting; heavily adorned masks a la 1001 Nights; and the odd dramatic, fur-trimmed coat with a Doctor Zhivago'esque feel...might seem like a surefire recipe for a flop of epic proportions. The surprising result? Clothes for a fashionista with some imagination and a jones for getting really decked out.
