Slip on a Pair of Toms Shoes & Help a Shoeless Child in an Impoverished Community. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION & SHOE BLOG
If you ever though no good could come from television, maybe Blake Mycoskie can change your mind. After competing on The Amazing Race II, he was volunteering in an Argentinean village and became enamored with the traditional Argentine Alpargata sported by the locals. He tried a pair for himself, and decided to start Toms Shoes & adapt them to the U.S. shoe market. As part of the corporate mission statement - “To make life more comfortable” - for each pair sold, the company donates a pair of shoes to a child in need; in 2006, the company gave away about 10,000 pairs of shoes to impoverished communities in Argentina.
Mycoskie & his fellow shoe giver, Zak Ferris, are hitting the road in an Airstream bus, crossing the country to inspire and educate as many people as possible on his passionate crusade. (They will be in the L.A. area March 1-4.) To find out more or, even better, to purchase a pair, go to TomsShoes.com.
