Damon Dash visits Africa with the World Food Programme
In the worlds of music, fashion & business, Damon Dash is a high profile player. Less well known, however, is his philanthropic side.
To help underprivileged children, he and his family recently flew to Africa in support of Orphanage Africa & the World Food Programme. WFP food aid, which reached 96.7 million people in 82 countries in 2005, is leading the fight against the number one risk to global health. The WFP works extensively with the UN.
For Father’s Day, Dash plans to kick off a charity basketball tournament to benefit the Kingdome Sports League, which provides services to at-risk youth, utilizing athletics as a tool to address social challenges that this group faces in their day-to-day lives. Damon Dash Enterprises along with PRO-Keds spearheaded hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations for the basketball court and all apparel contributions to the tournament - a popular affair founded in 1985 which continues to draw ripe, local talent and NBA super stars alike.
