FASHIONWEEK Fall 2007: 80s Power Shoulders Get Some Space Age Style from Martin Margiela. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG
The puffed up shoulders of your stereotypical 80s "working woman" suit continue to be the (well deserved) butt of jokes, however, the underlying idea is a good one: extending the shoulders makes a woman's silhouette even more feminine, especially when the waist is also nipped in. Granted, Margiela is playing with proportion here, but there's no denying these clothes have a sense of humor, look interesting, and with touches like the string-like swags & net-covered boots - they interpret the trends in a fresh light.
