FASHIONWEEK Fall 2007: Inspired by Icebergs, Linda Loudermilk's Brand of Eco-Chic is Rock Star Ready. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG & PODCAST
Summary: Calling them the "rock stars of nature", Loudermilk's interpretation of Arctic iceberg chic involved a stark palette of winter white, ice blue, a shimmery taupe, and "dark ash". The show opened with a sleek white wool mini dress with oversized "iceberg" sleeve - like a puffy fabric watermelon with multiple facets - cropped just below the elbow; it was particularly fab & lustworthy. Another interesting detail was shiny fringe applied down the sideseams of a pant & in another look, encircling a top; from the rear, it formed an elegant semi-circle suspended from each shoulder which dipped to the midback...and turned out to be human hair! While it might seem like a cringeworthy substance to use as trim, the effect was anything but. Cotton faux fur made for lush cascading ruffle lapels on one chic white jacket, while a black rice paper wool jacket was draped in the back to look like a modified bustle. Evening wear - such as a shimmery mid-calf shealth with (reclaimed) lace overlay - was paired with 80s style pointy ankle boots (with tons of buckles), making it cool & downtown. The poufy mohawk-like coiffure with the the "Mad Housewife" swingy dress - a swirly teal & gold confection - was another fun styling touch. One winter white dress with long bell sleeves even had white fabric cubes suspended from them - about the size of fuzzy dice hanging from a car rear-view window...and just as fun!
