FASHIONWEEK Fall 2007: Vincent Longo Explains the "Dolls on the Moon" Makeup Backstage at Erin Fetherston & Talks Trends for Fall. FASHIONTRIBES BEAUTY BLOG & VIDEOBLOG
Backstage at any fashion show is always a madhouse (if it isn't, something is drastically amiss), however when celebs are in the house, the madness quotient usually goes to 11. Opening the show was actress Zooey Deschanel singing Dream a Little Dream of Me, and she was busy getting her makeup done by makeup maestro Vincent Longo. After she was finally ready for her closeup, Mr. DeMille, us press plebes were allowed to start shooting again as Longo shared the scoop on his makeup vision for Fetherston. "The Fetherston collection is, literally, dolls on the moon," explains Longo. "They're moonwalking, so their cheeks are rounded, very feminine and fresh. The eyes have a little glimmer on the lid, with mascara that is very well-layered. It's very feminine to have a beautiful lashline, so we exaggerating that, especially on the lower lashline. The lips are just stained with a light rose color, and looking very fresh."
Makeup artist Vincent Longo's tips for fall makeup:
- SKIN "There's a lot of transparency on the skin for fall, a lot of dewiness, so there is a lot of emphasis on the skin. Many of the the designers that I worked this season have wanted to see transparency, so blush married with the foundation is a big thing."
- CHEEKS "I've been using a lot of cream blush, actually. Cream blush is very big for me this whole season. Also, don't be scared of a rounded cheek because it adds to that glowing effect of femininity. Many times, women think they need to apply cheek color underneath their cheekbone and elongate the cheek, but that's not necessarily the case."
- EYES "Try one shade of color going across the lid, or try a sophisticated look by shading the lashline and then carrying it into the crease of the eye, opening it up and creating a softly glamourous look."
- LIPS "Whether it's a combination of matte and shiny, or a stain, there are no real rules, just whatever works for you."
