That 80s Staple, the Dark Power Suit, is Back - but with an Exaggerated Feminine Twist on the Spring 2007 Couture Runways. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG
The 80s power suit was most famously immortalized in Working Girl - in all it's floppy bow & giant-shouldered glory. With the 80s trend in fashion showing no immediate signs of running its course, it's not surprising that the power suit is back. The version on the recent Spring 07 Couture runways was much more feminine - less football linebacker & more Mae West.
Today's serious suit has a silhouette that's been nipped into a sharp and sexy hourglass (Armani Prive, Chanel, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier). Hips are luxiously padded with feathery trim (Chanel), shiny horizontal stripes (Christian Dior), and bubble-shaped skirts (Lacroix, Chanel). Even the pant suit is having a moment (Armani Prive, Jean Paul Gaultier) - this long unbroken swathe of dark fabric was even re-imagined and exaggerated at Givenchy into a medieval-influenced silhouette.
The power suit goes seriously femme fatale at the Spring 2007 Couture shows:
