Say what you will about Whole Foods, but they sure know how to get attention.

According to a recent piece on NPR.org, the grocery chain employs artists at all of their 183 American stores. For $13 an hour, plus health benefits & a store discount, the full-time in-house artistes keep the stores' chalkboards finely decorated. Artists like Philadelphia's Katie Lanciano like to use their ephemeral medium to reflect local life, such as rendering melting clocks and cow skulls when an exhibit of Salvador Dali's work opened there. "It's like a revolving gallery," she notes about her chalkboard canvases. "People get to see my artwork every day."
