FASHIONWEEK Spring 2007: Nautical Gone Nuts…& Tribal, Too. Alexandre Herchcovitch Heeds the Call of the Sea & the Tribal Drums. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG & PODCAST
(photos: NYMag.com)
Summary: Bright primary colors jumped away from many of the muted, romantic palettes dominating the spring 2007 shows. Sailor captain hats rendered in bright nautical prints with matching pirate-style print scarves & even leggings in some cases. Masai-inspired stiff collar necklaces topped some ensembles, and in a vertically striped belt incarnation in others. Loose, swingy dresses, bright red bling-trimmed walking shorts, and even red capelet top dresses all but grabbed every eye in the house.
Color Palette: primary colors of yellow, blue, red; pale yellow, tomato red, leaf & emeral green, head-to-toe white
Textures & Details: stiff red hip slung belts (but more like mini hula hoops), jaunty print covered sailor captain hats with matching scarves, flag motifs, skull reflective badges, black & white checkboard trim, clog/wedge slip on shoes & boots (very S&M)
Key looks: red capelet dress with matching pleated mini skirt and black trim; swingy dresses, eyepopping head-to-toe print tops & pants; all white top/pant ensemble
