FASHIONWEEK Spring 2007: Pop Art & Patent Leather Cut a Groovy Figure at Malo. FASHIONTRIBES & GIRLAWHIRL FASHION BLOG & PODCAST
Summary: Long, loose tresses parted in the middle and patent-coated cotton with a mirror-like shine gave Malo – known primarily for their cashmere – a swingin’ 60s vibe. However, despite mixes of colors like tomato with fuschia & raspberry, and mustard with eggplant, the overall effect of the collection was muted – almost monochromatic. Black Pierre Cardin’esque patent circles encrusted with black pom-pom like stones embellished one eyecatching coat, while a white & grey mini skirt with a repeating pattern of oversize white dots was paired with a large clutch featuring the colors in reverse. Fun details included long draped panels covering centerfront revealed a belted waist from behind.
Color Palette: steely grey, black, white, fuschia, raspberry, grey with fuschia, a tomato sleeve with raspberry, sage green, mustard & eggplant
Textures & Details: pom-pom sized “stone” embellishment attached in regular grid patterns; patent covered cotton circles about the diameter of a coffee cup; panels draped down center front to hide the waist; mixed color patent wedge heels; steel grey patent bowler bags (black, too)
Key looks: car coat with oversized mustard & eggplant print; jackets with patent circles & “stones”, patent leather bowling bags in steel grey; raspberry top with tomato sleeves
