"A lot of people are going to India, and not just Indians. It's such a rich & diverse place, whether you're in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh there's everything from fashion to culture to embrace, explore, and see how much it influences your daily life," explains Aarti Tandon, who works with Rishi Shah, publisher of Rave SQ. An upscale lifestyle and fashion magazine, it highlights the best of South Asia from Bombay chic, to the Bangalore hipster scene, the burgeoning fashion industry, and the best places to experience.  The brainchild of Shah - who started Rave, India's version of Rolling Stone magazine - Rave SQ came into existence after they realized that high flying South Asian expats were vastly underserved stateside. "Focus groups showed that they were not ready for a music magazine, but they wanted a high-end, jet-set fashion magazine."

Many aspects of Indian culture have become mainstream including yoga, ayurveda and fashion - and not just Bollywood, which many Indians cringe at as definitely downmarket...much the same way many of us would if presented with the notion of Disneyland as representing American culture to the rest of the world. Rave SQ is modeled after the upscale Departures magazine, the chi chi bible of what to eat, where to shop and the best ways to savor any downtime. Recent features in Rave SQ have included an interview with fashion designer (and Jackie O fave) Oleg Cassini before he died, as well as exclusive photos of the Fab Four, the Beatles, in India in 1968. "Our readers are a group that grew up jet set, and traveling is no big deal. We wanted to do not just fashion, but lifestyle. We call our magazine 'karmic luxury' because things like yoga and ayurveda are not cheap - such as going to upscale yoga getaways. People travel so often, they want to know where can they find the 'best of' in all their worlds. We've honed it down to what to pack, and where to shop & visit...and where you find both the cheap stuff and the top designers."
