When the God Poseidon falls for Demeter, she rebuffs his advances by asking him to make the most beautiful animal - ever. Unfortunately (for Poseidon), his initial efforts left Demeter less than impressed. "In some accounts, his first attempts were unsuccessful and he created a variety of other animals in his quest," explains Litman. "By the time the horse was created, his passion for Demeter had cooled. This spin-off focuses mainly on the latter creations in order to emphasize the rejection of Poseidon's creations by Demeter."  Rendered in charcoal and acrylic paint, Litman notes that this blend is often mistaken for pastel or colored pencil.
