State of the Fashion Union #10: What the Bloggers are Saying. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG

The State of the Fashion Union - the Fashion & Lifestyle blogosphere weighs in for Fall 2006 Fashionweek Thursday, February 9, 2006:

More trends from New York Fashionweek, courtesy of Omiru: chain detailing on bags, tuxedo touches for women, sweater dresses, and an array of interesting variations on the little black dress. Guys, rejoice...it's toggle coats for you! Reviews of Heatherette, Cloak, Nanette Lepore, Chaiken, Iisli, Luca Luca, and Bill Blass.

The buzz - and podcast convo - from the Fashiontribes editors: Film Noir gets a cheery dose of French sunshine at Temperley; bubble-shapes make skinny models look fat at Vera Wang; a dowdy 40s heroine doesn't quite make the cut at Pamella Roland; a depressing Depression Era vision, well, depresses at Wunderkind; and socialtes can get their one-stop shopping on at J. Mendel.

Ali McGraw at Harvard earned Michael Kors an A, says The Fashionable Kiffen, who dug the twenties collegiate meets luxe hippie, with lots of plaids, velvet, and cozy cashmere. Especially beloved: drop-waisted dresses and fab, fur-trimmed coats, knee boots, lil' knit caps, and wide circle-buckle belts. At Narciso Rodriguez, the minimalistic black and white palette, and just-this-side-of-severe tailored suits and dresses, did not disappoint.

And Heatherette's spoiled-only-child "look at me" attitude toward design is all the more reason not to try E, opines Shangri Law, who felt that Richie Rich & Traver Rains produced a Gotham-inspired collection whose pulse could only be detected if one was a licensed proctologist.

A great showing from Tibi, pix from Luca Luca, Heatherette, Behnaz Sarafpour & Reem Acra, gloves & layers from Marc Jacobs - courtesy of Just My Cup of Tea.

According to Girlawhirl, the blend of prep and attitude at Michael Kors was a hit, as were the autumnal browns, camel, and rugby stripes. And the Marc Jacobs & Marc by Marc shows have hijacked any discussion of the clothes themselves, such as the full long pants, and proper looking dresses. She also dug the preponderance of brown, popped with bright blue and yellow at DKNY - and predicts that bright blue will probably be this fall's "it" hue.

And don't forget to add your two cents at the Fashionweek Discussion Forum on Glam.com.
