The_inheritance_of_loss

Jemubhai Popatlal is a retired Cambridge-educated judge who lives in Kalimpong, at the foot of the Himalayas, with his orphaned granddaughter, Sai, and his cook. They have a makeshift group of neighbors such as a posse of Anglophiles who are V.S. Naipaul-savvy, but less so about where they rank on the social foodchain...until social unrest hits the region and they become targets. Starcrossed love, miserable expatriates, and crumbling cultural identity - and a healhty dose of humor - add up to a great read. Available at Amazon.com
