A Dowdy 40s Movie Heroine Doesn't Quite Cut it at Pamella Roland. Fall 2006 Runway Review. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION BLOG & PODCAST

Although the liner notes cited John Singer Sargent's Madame X as inspiration, the muse proved way more chic than the result. Ostensibly a wardrobe for any & all moments in the life of the red carpet & black tie set, the brocade suits, bulky pleated seams, and fussy draping made the collection feel more ancient dowager than young thang'.

Individually, a midnight blue ruffled blouse, black high-waisted floor length tuxedo skirt, and black smoking suit made the cut, but the collection overall was overly mature.

Pamella Roland color palette:

  • white
  • bone
  • cocoa
  • smokey grey
  • greenish brown
  • chocolate brown
  • black & white windowpane check
  • grey
  • burgundy & merlot
  • black
  • midnight blue

Accessories/Hair & Makeup:

  • bun in the shape of a conehead
  • vibrant red lip
  • high jeweled pumps
  • leather gloves
  • mink & fox peter pan collars
