M is for Metropolitan Opera-and Mercedes Bass-Fashiontribes Pop Culture Blog
In a rare act of Socialite generosity, New York Doyenne Mercedes Bass is donating $25 million to the Metropolitan Opera. The largest individual donation on record, the money is largely unrestricted-which means it can go to plugging this season's gaps (in the millions!) as well as other needs for the Lincoln Center Institution. Bass- who has sat on the Opera's board since the 90's-actually put her money where her mouth is.
