Viktor & Rolf Spring 2006 Collection from Paris Fashion Week-Upside Down You're Turning Me is clearly their inspirational motto of the season-Fashiontribes Fashion Blog

 

Fashion's Dutch Darlings proved yet again why we are all so crazy for them.  In  a nod to their typical artsy-smartsy stylings, Viktor & Rolf were the first two people to appear on their runway- followed by a parade of clapping models and a group of girls in billowy white confections-turned upside down.  Leave it two the adorable pair to run their show backwards, adjusting the clothing so it sat sideways or upside down on the models.  After Diana Ross's Upside-Down Your Turning Me  began to skip and slur, it became evident this was not only a show, but a statement.  Revisiting iconic pieces from their past, and literally turning them upside down on the models, the designers announced their sentiment that fashion was moving to fast, thus in dire need of creativity and originality.

 

Of course, V&R gave us a dose-showing a series of pieces upside down as well as right side up, layered and reversed.  Pants turned into a bolero, a slip dress came not only single-layered, but multiplied by 5 and slipping down on itself.  Jackets and dresses came out turned sideways, sunglasses appeared to be put on upside-down, purses hung clasp-at-bottom-and yet, righted, the pieces were the flawless mix of practical in quirky.  Another collection where it would be near impossible to pick out favorites- Who wouldn't want bra-exposing floral, draped dresses, slouchy shorts, long gowns seemingly shifted sideways, and jackets turned so their pocket's hung upside-down.  Truly, what we need is a copy of Viktor & Rolf themselves for their next presentation.  Somehow, the flair with which they mastermind their collections never runs out.
