Jun Takahashi, arguably Japan's freshest fashion force, as well as it's new design darling proved why his Undercover line has a cult-like following.  Literally.  His Spring 2006 Paris show was influenced by German Prog rock-and his models pledged allegiance to The Amazing Tale of Zamiang and a man named Klaus.  Don't feel left out- the Amazing Tale and Klaus were figments of Takahashi's obviously active imagination.  The clothing however, was an Amazing Tale in itself-one that I would like to pledge allegiance to myself.  The entire collection paid homage to the t-shirt- Jun was interested in playing with a common item, taking something simple, common and limited and venturing into the possibilities of what could be done with it.  If his collection s the answer to his posed thesis, I am all about playing with t-shirts.

In what has been, by far, the freshest collection to date, Takahashi took the commonplace item and spun it into over-sized dresses, skirts that allowed the sleeves to hang by the hips, terrific capes and draped tunics.  Accented by skinny, multi-pocket pants and faded prints of record covers and vinyl, he somehow managed to take his kooky concept and make it desirable.  Models, donning headpieces made of t-shirts and industrial chain, as well as belts made of heavy chain and meal tassels, occasionally appeared to have skin modifications.  The room, dark and filled with pillar-sized candles, set a mood that made it clear no corner would be cut.  Leather pants and sandals were accented with metal nails at the feet, halos were made of link-chain, and the most outstanding boots had a faded print t-shirt cradling the leg.  Sign FT up for nearly everything- we want every t-shirt, dress, skirt and cape, as well as a meeting with Mr. Takahashi to decorate our living spaces.
