Paco Rabanne Spring 2006: Brightly Hued Vintage Kimono Silks Pieced Back Together Into Dresses - Similar to What the Original Rabanne Did in the 60s w/ Metal & Plastic Discs. FASHIONTRIBES FASHION EXPERT FASHION BLOG
For Spring 2006, Patrick Robinson reinterpreted the Paco Rabanne legacy of metal & plastic sheath dresses. Instead of using hardware the way Rabanne did in the 60s, Robinson's homage took a more modern approach - he cut up 500 vintage kimonos & then pieced them back together.
Robinson carried the piecing-together idea through to include ropes of the type sailors use - to cinch in waists, hoist up bodices & even for use as footwear.
A pretty collection of wearable little dresses, casual suits, and groovy shorts in classic neutral colors peppered with hits of bright color from the vintage kimono silks - it's the details like the ropes & the way the shorts are seamed that make it interesting.

Hi. I was just wondering whether anyone knew how to purchase a Paco Robane dress, which Sarah Jessica Parker wore on Sex and the city. It is cream/gold, with Sequins attached. I am desperate to find it, so i would be very grateful for help. Thanks.

The vintage fashionista in me gulped when I read this headline. Part of me thinks it's a vintage sin to cut up such beautiful garments, but part of what makes the garment beautiful are the details and fabric. Who the hell is going to wear a kimono in public? At least they weren't iconic designer pieces that were cut up.
I really like this collection.
