FLIRT-ing with the FASHIONISTA DIARIES-- a Hip New REALITY TV Series About NYFW! LA STORY Hot New Cosmetics + Fashion+ TV Blog

Hola Chiquitas, hang onto your tv time and don't totally blow it off this summer because one of the hottest summer shows will be on SOAP.net with a NEW reality series that marries fashion + cosmetics+ Jane Magazine + New York Fashion Week all in  show that has 10 episodes!! It's called  The Fashionista Diaries.  Buena Vista (Disney division) partnered with  GO GO LUCKEY ( Laguna Beach) and HOUR ONE  to present this show.

This show will depict the drama-- the high and low points of 2 new assistants from 3 different companies: Flirt Cosmetics (a brand from BeautyBank of the Estee Lauder Corp); Jane Magazine (If you have to ask, go buy a copy), and  Seventh House PR,  a boutique PR firm specializing in fashion and collaborating with Charlotte Ronson's Fashion Show and AfterParty during New York Fashion Week. You will see the highs & lows, the ups and downs as these six men and women try and make it "happen" (as a career) in these highly competitive industries and companies.

Accoring to Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney ABC Television Group.  “This is the first of many new series that will originate with Buena Vista and find their way to SOAPnet.”

General Manager, SOAP.net, Deborah Blackwell, was thrilled to have this opportunity to work with such high profiles brands and publications and create a truly unique inside peek into the world of fashion and beauty-- as it really plays out during NYFW. Blackwell stated, “We will also be able to work on exciting cross promotional opportunities across all our brands.  We’ve had great success with reality programming and this docudrama is a natural progression.”

The assistants and the three companies commingle in a unique way as they try to make it big in the BIG APPLE with high rent apts, long hours and a crazy life that is a blur of work and social. Each is involved in  the launch of the Charlotte Ronson NYFW event --a priority  project-- that can pit the assistants against each other or teach them  to team up to  get the job done while impressing the boss and not get fired before the big event. The series will conclude in September alongside New York’s Fashion Week.

It's reality tv for the real fashionistas and those who wonder what it's all about!

Cover_girl_logo

Wednesday afternoon,  Drew Barrymore was ceremoniously unveiled as the newest face of CoverGirl Cosmetics.  The star and filmmaker will not only find herself in front of the camera launching new products for the company, but also behind the camera as a co-creative director of her first TV commercial for the Brand.

Barrymore

“I am honored to be associated with a brand that has been at the forefront of its industry for almost fifty years,” Barrymore said.  “CoverGirl has managed to change with the times, yet stay in touch with women of all ages and backgrounds.  To be chosen not only as the newest face of CoverGirl, but to be given the opportunity to be a co-creative director of my first TV commercial is truly amazing.”

Eyes_quada_b

“Drew is a wonderful addition to the CoverGirl family and her role – both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as co-creative director – is new and different for the cosmetics industry,” said Esi Eggleston Bracey, Vice President and General Manager, CoverGirl Cosmetics in North America.  “We wanted to honor Drew’s passions as a filmmaker and are thrilled she is not only lending her beautiful face to CoverGirl but also lending her artistic talents as the co-creative director of the ad campaign.”

Latifah

She was introduced by Esi Eggleston Bracey, (General Manager of CoverGirl in North America).  Drew emerged from behind a large movie clipboard that had Take One and her name with the CoverGirl Logo.  Drew made
some lovely comments about the history of CG and how excited she is to have been asked to represent such a legendary cosmetic line like Cover Girl Cosmetics.
She mentioned how as a young teenage girl, she had Cheryl Tiegs, Carol Alt Cover Girl ads pasted on her walls. She likes the availability of Cover Girl and confessed that she is a make-up junkie.

Nails_quada_b
When asked why now in her career, she said that in her 30's, she wanted to feel the best about herself and, saying "embrace what you have been given". Cover Girl has also stepped up and is joining her in her philanthropy,
starting with her schools and books for her Kenya project.  There are other charities that she and Cover Girl will cooperate on.

Drew will also be working in tandem with Cover Girl behind the
camers as a co-creative director of her first TV commercial for the Cover Girl brand! Her national print and TV ads for Cover Girl will break in January 2008

Shine It On For Spring! Cliniques Gives YOU Lots of Options! LA STORY Shining Beauty Blog

Want that gorgeous glow for spring and summer? Want to rev up that shine on the lips? Or define those eyes? How about a blush of color so translucent yet gives you a unique glow-- of subtle to more distinct color.

Topnav_logo_home

You don't have to pay major bucks for these textures this season-- and it's not hard to find! Check out your local Clinique counter. YES, CLINIQUE!! While everyone's been checking out  what's going on with other brands, Clinique has been quietly making a statement that makes it worthy of YOUR attention--because it's certainly got mine!

Besides having a slew of foundation options for every skintype and every type of coverage from sheer to full, textures from dewy to matte, Clinique's got you covered.

It's the color collections that have me WOW'ed!

Illuminator

Want that hint of illumination? Check out the  Uplighting Liquid Illuminator in 4 colors from  Natural to Bronze-- enough to take you from spring to summer in perfect style and you can mix these into foundation, dab it onto the high points on your face to create definition  or wear it alone over well-prepped skin.  $22.50

Freshblossomallovercolo

Want a hint of more color and a bit of inner glow but want a more powder finish?  Fresh Bloom All Over Color is a GORGEOUS palette that you might not want to touch because it's so insanely beautiful-- but please do. You will love the colors available in  four different   compacts and all the shades in this flower portrait work together to give you both highlight and definition as well as soft glowing from within color. $29.50 (and it will last you all summer! )
Cliniqueshadowquad_2

Clinique Color Surge  Shadow Quads give you color that really works together to give you a soft natural eye look or enough color to give your eyes POP! Definitely a worthy investment at $25 and in five distinctly cool  quad collections.  Nifty palette slips nicely into your bag or your pocket.

Longlastshinelipstick

Clinique Long Last Shine Lipstick gives your lips that hint of color -- actually more than a hint but natural enough that you will feel comfortable wearing this on Saturday "day" as well as  Saturday "night". It's soft shine-- just enough to create a nice balance based on the illuminators or glow powders and it comes in a glorious range of shades. Check out  Beauty the perfect all purpose shade that I find is YLBB (your lips but better) -- even for me! At $14 each, it's not hard to pick up a couple of colors.

Check it out at Clinique.com or your local Clinique counter. This is one of those insanely great collections that I  love-- and because it's Clinique, you know it's 1) not hard to find and 2) not going to vanish on  you- though I would invest in a couple of Illuminators and Glow palettes because I bet those will sell out fast!

Makes for a nice gift for Mother's Day or for brides too!

If you see me floating around  with perfectly glowing skin, thank Clinique. It's their stuff I have been wearing -- and loving!

HOT SCOOP: Gloss.com Bites the Dust --Or Is It Taking A Powder-- in JUNE! !LA STORY Gets the "Down Low" Blog!

Glosscom_face

Back in the  "dark ages" of the web, there emerged tons of new sites for women-- particularly beauty ecommerce sites for women. Remember Eve.com? Beautyscene? Beautyjungle? Eve and Beautyscene died ignominious deaths. Beautyjungle was swallowed up by Beauty.com which was in turn swallowed  by Drugstore.com but still maintains as a distinct identity. Sephora emerged first  as a brick and mortar store and then  launched online. Gloss.com emerged as a viable alternative  because it was created by a collection of former execs from a variety of high end department stores who sold out to Estee Lauder but since developed a cooperative with cosmetic, skincare and fragrance giants: Clarins, Chanel and Thierry Mugler.

Glossbrand1page

Brands involved from Estee Lauder included Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Darphin, Estee Lauder, Jo Malone, La Mer, LAB Series, MAC, Origins, Prescriptives, and Rodan+Fields  along with several MAJOR heavy hitting fragrance brands (Missioni, Sean John, Kors and more) -- each a major brand and entity in its own right and owning a chunk of beauty real estate.

Glossprod2page

Prepare yourself for some bad news and (hold onto your holy grail Gloss products).. because Gloss.com is going to fold come June 2007.  YUP.. That's right. While it was intimated in WWD earlier last month, it's official and I have held the lid on this story till now.

Glossproduct3page_3

Why are they shutting down? According to the "powers that be" at Gloss.com, their market analysis showed that the online business was growing dramatically, but unfortunately Gloss.com business was the least competitive and showed the least growth amongst its competitors including their own brand sites and partner brand sites.  Rather than keep slogging through the quicksand that Gloss has become mired in, they are going to focus on those sites doing well and skip the rest.

Aboutgloss

While Gloss.com has shown double -digit sales figures and Clarins in particular has seen  significant sales (approximately $3,000,000.00 in 2006), the website seems to be faltering in showing a return on its investment. While it was created during an internet boom time - and survived the dot com/e-commerce crash-- it has required significant time and dollars to keep it going.

When one factors in the Estee Lauder Corp  sites along with the Chanel sites already operating, one wonders what took so long for Gloss.com HQ to wake up and smell the lip gloss.

Glossclarins

Fret not if you are a Clarins or Thierry Mugler lover! Websites for both brand will be launching soon in France and the U in May with other global web portals rolling out over the next couple of years.  For Clarins customer base, it will be a more user friendly site.

Glossthierrymugler

For those Thierry Mugler fans, there is a site coming this month, shopthierrymugler.com, that is launching both in the US and France.

So my peeps, if you are a Gloss fan or have outstanding orders, get to it and stock up. Don't think there will be any sales of outstanding stock since these are high powered brands that can shift stock to stores. However I could be wrong in that assumption.. but I wouldn't put rest my mascara on that one.

The next question is how will this affect the other beauty e-commerce sites out there and those that are shaky, will they be able to stay the course? How will this affect the Chanel relationship with Sephora? Will this affect ANY of the Estee Lauder relationships with Sephora and will you see any beefing up of the cosmetic entities mentioned here in the different department/specialty store websites? How will this affect Beauty.com as well since they are known for their niche brands. Lots to think about boys and girls.. lots to think about.

Remember-- you heard it hear first.

TAKE 5-- For Cosmetics and Beauty on the Run! LA Story Hot Beauty Line Review Blog

Logo_2

Take 5 Cosmetics – A fabulous face in less than five minutes?

Yet another makeup artist has created their own cosmetics line—Emmy-nominated Judy Twine, former model turned makeup artist turned cosmetisc entrepreneur has come up with a selection of products designed to show women that there is a celebrity in everyone.  The line has been used on the hit ABC show, “Ugly Betty” and now it’s available to make us regular folk “red carpet” ready.

The premise of the line is that it should only take five minutes to create a fabulous look.  I’m all for that—but don’t get the idea that this is a minimalist line.

The selection of products is very impressive—four different types of foundation, five different highlighters/bronzers, ten different lip products just for starters.  The word is that this cosmetics line is a make-up fanatic’s paradise—and I would have to agree with that assessment.

I was able to sample only  a handful of the products, but here’s the 411 on a few items from this extensive line:

Shimmers

Shimmer Tints – I sampled this in the Soft Gold shade.  This silky feeling, silicone based highlighter lives up to its name imparting a soft golden shimmer.  This product was designed to be worn alone to accentuate cheeks, eyes and lips or mixed with foundation for a subtle glow.  I tried it both ways—sweeping a bit across my eyelids for a bit of polished glimmer one day and another day mixing it with my sunscreen to give my complexion a golden glow.  It’s a very subtle look—not glittery or fake.  .5 oz. retails for about $19.00.

Stickfoundation_2

Lumi-shine - A brush on lip gloss with a hint of sparkle, I tried this in a shade called “Belladonna.” It is a nude, sheer shade that reminded me of MAC’s Lust.  This gloss is soft and non-sticky.  Like most glosses this needs frequent reapplication, but unlike most gloss, it feels soothing and moisturizing to the lips instead of drying them out.  Retails for about $13.00.

Browpencils

Ind
