Perhaps it's all the end-of-the-Mayan-calendar excitement, but for Thakoon Panichgul, 2012 definitely proved a colorful year, both literally & figuratively. For his Spring collection, he extended the previous season's decadent mix of Versailles rococo and tribal Kenyan Masai with a further multiculti twist, improbably one would think but apparently not, of kitschy-bright Bollywood-meets-Spaghetti-Western. Pre-fall saw his ladies headed back to the Thakoon School for Girls, but then they rebelled, walking the Fall runway in bright hues. Probably to distract from the darker side given what dominated the designer's mood board: the famous Ed and Nancy Kienholz installation, The Hoerengracht, which re-created Amsterdam's red-light district from the 1980s. And red was the hot hue for Thakoon's Fall '12 collection, along with softer, more feminine variations of fuchsia and raspberry.
And since fashion and beauty go hand in hand, the hands were embellished to match! The Thakoon for NARS Nail Collection is the brand’s first collaboration with a fashion designer in the nail category. The limited edition, six-shade collection of saturated, high-shine shades include an Indian spice market's worth of exotica such as Lal Mirchi (a lush Mandarin red), Anardana (azelea pink), Ratin Jot (orchid purple), Amchoor (bright yellow), Kutki (powder blue) & Koliary (cyan blue). The shades are all toluene-, formaldehyde- and DBP-free.
