[NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT EACH FASHION TRIBE, START HERE]
From her gold-plated Instagram feed - chartered helicopter rides! rockstar boyfriend! using your $5K LV bag as footrest in a private jet! - L'Wren Scott, the longtime girlfriend of Mick Jagger, had cracked the (zip) code to la dolce vita and moved right on up into a pretty ritzy neighborhood in life. Even her NYC apartment was exclusive and worth over $5 million. And yet, she committed suicide, hanging herself, her eponymous design label revealed to be at least $6 million in debt and a long list of celebrity "friends" she could not turn to in her dispair.
With friends like these...
Of course, her death has brought out the buzz, handwringing and speculation within the fashion industry about the unrealistic images it perpetrates, the insane standards it sets, the total facade'ness of it all. Perhaps. As far as I'm aware, no one holds guns to fashionistas (& -os) heads and forces them to participate. To spend themselves into bankruptcy. To kill themselves by image. (image)
But it's certainly sad. And unnecessary.
There's a very Gatsby'esque reinvention factor to L'Wren's life that is oh so American. But Gatsby was an authentic member of the Supremium tribe because he had the financial means to be. Which is key. I discuss this in the podcast I recorded about this.
