New Fashion Designer Mathieu Mirano Channels Jean Muir & Her Timeless Talent
For Fall 2012, the New York born, Parsons trained 21-year-old (!) is featuring rich black leathers, claw studs, exposed zippers & dragon-scale embroideries combined with delicate silk chiffons & organzas that give his soft wools and feminine furs a raw intensity that grownup fashionistas will flock to. Inspired by his travels to farflung destinations including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Calcutta, Geneva, Milano, Marseille, London & Paris - and music (Camille Saint-Saëns and Philip Glass are favorites), Mirano combines color, texture and elegance in a way that brought classic Jean Muir (below) to mind.
The British-born, Scottish designer (1928-1995) was admired her bold, fashion-history influenced designs which rejected the madcap aesthetic of the 60s miniskirt & and the decidedly non-womanly retangular silhouette of the era in favor of longer hemlines, feminine flowiness and a much more sophisticated brand of sex appeal.
